To lead research and education initiatives and provide public service programs that generate new techniques, technology, and methodologies that are implemented directly into patient care which will hopefully result in improving the lives of people of all ages pertaining to the lower extremity and, more specifically, the ankle and foot. The vision is spear-headed by the ongoing efforts of our two renowned orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Erik Nilssen and Dr. Murawski.
Three unique areas with our Research division include:
AREF has a human performance and biomechanics laboratory that conducts motion assessments and analyses for sports movement to prevent injuries and/or improve performance.
Surgical skills, cadaver and materials testing:
AREF has a laboratory that is used for training and education along with product testing, surgical technique improvement and proficiency training.
AREF provides oversight and support for the implementation of clinical studies of drugs and devices in alignment with Baptist Health Care and Andrews Institute.
