Covid – 19 Update: Telemedicine Available

I wanted to send a message on our efforts to continue orthopedic care in the midst of the COVID 19 epidemic.

Serving our community is the highest priority of the team at Nilssen Orthopedics. Due to concerns around COVID-19, we will be making some changes in our schedule and offering telemedicine appointments.

We will continue patient visits at 825 E. Burgess Rd, Pensacola, FL 32504 and will be instituting strict social distancing practices.

Orthopedic Laser Therapy – Treatment for Chronic Pain, Joints, and Arthritis

Now that elective surgery is on hold and routine orthopedic appointments will be limited, we want to emphasize that Orthopedic Laser Therapy is an excellent alternative treatment option for acute and chronic orthopedic pain. Orthopedic Laser Therapy offers both patients and their orthopedic doctors an innovative and effective alternative pain management option to treat acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. Orthopedic Laser Therapy furthers the mission of providing patients non-operative and non-opioid treatment options.

This FDA-cleared and patented technology treats the pain and inflammation associated with a wide variety of soft tissue injuries, nerve pain, arthritis and surgery with no known side effects.

Additionally, the MLS Robotic Laser is the only high-powered laser that is non-invasive, painless, and completely free of the side effects and risks associated with other lasers used in the market today.

We are available for phone consultations or questions regarding laser treatment. As stated in previous messages we will be using strict precautions, including social distancing at Orthopedic Laser Therapy to minimize chances of exposure. If you have been exposed to a patient with an illness, have traveled to a hot spot, or are showing symptoms please call to reschedule. We are going to space out appointments to minimize prolonged exposure in our waiting room.

Personal Injury – Info for Attorneys

If you are an attorney or other legal representative of an injured individual, please know that our office is actively accepting new patients in this space. We recognize that there is an acute shortage of providers currently willing and able to treat this patient population, and we welcome the opportunity to fill the void for you and your clients. At Nilssen Orthopedics, we go above and beyond for patients who have been involved in accidents—motor vehicle or otherwise—to ensure all of their orthopedic needs are met in a timely manner. Our team specializes in diagnosing and treating orthopedic injuries following any kind of accident, with the ultimate goal of maximizing our patients’ quality of life and getting them back to their pre-injury levels of health and activity as quickly as possible.

The extent of our team’s medical training makes them uniquely qualified to provide post-accident orthopedic care. As a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Nilssen can provide competent orthopedic care across the entire musculoskeletal system. Specifically, he treats:

  • Fractures in the foot and ankle, knee, arm, elbow, shoulder, and collarbone;
  • Soft tissue injuries, including tendon and ligament tears, damage to muscle and connective tissue, and other sprains and strains;
  • Injuries to the nervous system causing numbness, tingling, or neuropathy; and
  • Neck and back injuries, including whiplash and disc damage.

Dr. Nilssen treats injuries resulting from a variety of accidents, including automobile and motorcycle accidents, falls, and work-site injuries. However you’ve been injured, Nilssen Orthopedics is uniquely positioned to accurately diagnose your injury and develop a treatment plan designed to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible. We also offer in-office ancillary services that allow your patients to access the entire continuum of care in one location: 825 E Burgess Road.

Please do not bring family members to the visit unless absolutely necessary so that we may adhere to these practices.

However, if you fit a category of a high-risk individual and/or you would rather create a telemedicine visit please contact us below and we will make arrangements to do so beginning later this week. In order to have a telemedicine appointment, the patient will need the ability to Skype or video conference with an iPhone.

Schedule a Telemedicine Appointment

Per CDC guidelines, Nilssen Orthopedics will cancel all non-emergent cases.

Scheduled cases are currently postponed through April 4. Our office staff will reach out to reschedule.

We are prepared and plan to expand our telemedicine capabilities as the needs arise over the coming weeks so that we may continue to care for our patients as much as possible during the extent of this crisis.

If you have questions concerning your visit or would like to reschedule please call us at 850-435-4800. We will reevaluate the situation in two weeks.

In the meantime, we hope that you, your family and loved ones are kept safe, follow all CDC guidelines, and use this time to spend time in meaningful ways. We value all of you and thank you for your patience during these extraordinary and unprecedented times.

I implore everyone to please show patience, practice social distance and use kindness and compassion for others in this unprecedented time in our lives.

Please share this with friends and family.

All the best,

Erik Nilssen MD
